On the 9th April 2024, just two days in office as a Councillor, the MOSSMAN WATER INTAKE WISER FUNDING APPLICATION was unanimously approved and passed!

This will greatly assist in the building of the Mossman River Water Intake further securing our water supply to the Douglas Shire.

In December 2023, the landscape was irrevocably altered by ex-Tropical Cyclone (TC) Jasper
and ensuing rainfall, significantly affecting the Shire’s raw water sources. The objective of the
Mossman River Intake project is to establish a more reliable and resilient water source in
response to this impact, and forms part of the Water Supply Security Strategy &
Implementation Plan. An opportunity has arisen to seek the National Water Grid’s Water
Infrastructure for Sustainable and Efficient Regions (WISER)’s funding for the completion of
this critical water project, contingent upon a council co-contribution.
This report aims to secure confirmation of Council's commitment to co-funding and endorse
its application to the National Water Grid, in partnership with the Department of Regional
Development, Manufacturing and Water (DRDMW)

On April 9th the APPOINTMENT OF CHAIR AND DEPUTY CHAIR - LOCAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT GROUP (LDMG) was unanimously passed and approved.

Both the Mayor and Cr Damian Meadows were elected.

Cr Meadows vast experience as a Police Sergeant in multiple disasters makes him.the perfect candidate for this position.

Councils are primarily responsible for managing disaster events in their local governmenta areas.

They are ideally placed to provide specific disaster management at the community level given

their knowledge and understanding of local social, environmental and economic issues. They achieve coordinated and effective strategies to manage potential vulnerabilities and respond to disasters through their LDMG.

It is important to fill the Chair and Deputy Chair roles as soon as possible to ensure Council has the appropriate governance in place, prior to the Council’s next ordinary meeting.

The Chairperson of each Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) must be a Mayor or Councillor appointed by Council.

TODAY the APPOINTMENT OF AUDIT COMMITTEE MEMBERS was proposed and the appointment of myself and the Mayor as Audit Committee members was passed.
Audit Committees are an essential component in the corporate governance structure of an
organisation. They act as an advisory body independent of management and internal and
external audit and report directly to the Council. The Audit Committee membership consists
of two external independent members, and two elected members.
So proud to be part of the future of the Douglas Shire

TODAY a Combined Application for a Material Change of Use Reconfiguring a Lot Resort Complex 97-113 Davidson Street Port Douglas was PASSED unanimously.

This is a huge step forward for the estimated $250 million dollar project which will breathe new life into the Douglas Shire once completed.

I made personal comments about how magnificent the design was and how it should act as an inspiration to future developers that wish to design respectfully and in adherence to our Town Plan.

It is indeed possible and it can be done!

I was more than proud to approve the application.

TODAY a Material Change of Use Retirement Village 47 Johnston Road Mossman Application was unanimously approved and passed today.

I was very happy to support this project as it will address the needed issue of future retirement living.

It's a fantastic design and will make alot of people happy

TODAY a Preliminary Approval and Application 1 into 33 Lots and Common Property 42 52 Mitre Street was unanimously passed and approved.

I voted in favour of this application as it will eventually provide 33 new homes in the Douglas Shire.

It meets all the Town Planning and Environmental requirements so it's a YES from me.
