A New Vision for Douglas Shire: Community First, Progress Always for the next generation.
I'm a proud resident of the Douglas Shire for over two decades and have officially been declared by the ECQ as a Councillor in the Douglas Shire Division 1 2024 Elections. With a deep commitment to serving the community and a unique perspective gained from living across the region, I bring a fresh approach to addressing the challenges and opportunities facing the Douglas Shire.
Having resided in various areas including the Daintree, Mowbray Valley and currently in Port Douglas, I understand the diverse needs and concerns of the residents throughout the Shire. With over 10 years spent in the Daintree, I have firsthand experience of the daily challenges faced by residents, from access issues to supporting the needs of local residents and businesses in Mossman.
Recent weather events have underscored the vulnerability of the Shire's water and sewerage infrastructure, highlighting the urgent need for prioritizing their improvement. I pledge to make this a top priority, ensuring the resilience and reliability of these essential services for all residents.
Moreover, I advocate for a re-evaluation of accessibility to the northern communities, emphasizing the importance of exploring modernised options beyond the existing aging ferry service. We need to re-visit the concept of a four lane ferry with double loading and departing. Communities north of the river used to be thriving and benefited greatly from eco-tourism. This prosperity needs to return. By bringing this issue back to the forefront of discussion, I aim to find innovative solutions that better connect and serve ALL residents of the Douglas Shire.
Recognizing the need for revitalization and growth, I'm committed to reversing the trend of youth migration to more affordable and appealing areas. Drawing on over 20 years of experience in successfully operating businesses and attracting investment into them, I believe in the potential of the Douglas Shire to thrive economically while preserving its unique character and natural beauty.
I emphasize the importance of having council members with practical business experience who truly understand the needs of both businesses and the community. While acknowledging the value of diverse perspectives, I stress the importance of unity and collaboration in pursuing common goals for the betterment of the Douglas Shire.
In my vision, the Douglas Shire is not a place of stagnation, but a dynamic community where opportunities abound and every resident has the chance to flourish. With a shared sense of purpose and a commitment to progress, I believe that the best is yet to come for the Douglas Shire.
